Rolling of a cylinder with slip-dependent friction: The Carter solution revisited

چکیده

The problem of a wheel under tractive rolling Carter is revisited here by assuming slip-dependent friction force. By change from static to dynamic coefficient occurs over small distance, we develop effectively fracture mechanics solution for the shear tractions, which describes some aspects “falling friction” creepage forces are commonly observed experimentally. Possible agreement with experiments discussed, suggesting that may include also rate-dependent effects. A simple strip theory used estimate 3D effects, reduce strength singularity at edges being peak pressure lower there.
